Child seriously injured in our community

Letter-Templemead-youth hit by vehicle

December 2, 2020

Dear families,

This letter is to let you know that a child was seriously injured yesterday by a vehicle near our school. This was extremely upsetting for us to learn, as I am sure it is for you.

We are limited in the information we have permission to share.

First responders arrived at the intersection, and the child was transported by ambulance to the hospital. We continue to wait for more information as we hope for the best outcome possible.

We join all of Hamilton in sending our thoughts and support to the family involved. We can only imagine how they are feeling right now.

We know that some of our students witnessed the accident. We will do all that we can to provide support for students, and staff, after this distressing situation.

Social workers have been at the school providing support throughout the day and will continue, as needed, in the days ahead. Social work support will also be available to Templemead students who are currently part of the remote learning program. Please speak with staff if this could be helpful to your child.

You may also wish to discuss this incident with your child, or respond if they have questions. One resource that may help in this conversion is the HWDSB’s resource, Tips for adults supporting children and youth after distressing events.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Sincerely,

Gregg Williamson
Principal
