Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week 2021

Each day this week our students will be focused on learning about bullying and how we can work to prevent it at Spring Valley School and in the community and world around us. This week we will be focused on three areas:

-understanding power

-what is bullying

-what if I am being bullied?

Every class will be engaged in lessons and activities around these three points. We will also be continuing our work on this topic throughout the year in order to empower our students with knowledge and strategies they will need to react to bullying.

At HWDSB Anti-Bullying Action Week takes place from November 22nd to 26th. Bullying is a major
problem in Canada today and bullying rates in Canada are higher than 2/3 of Western countries. One of
the most important things we can do to fight bullying is to raise awareness about it and ensure that
everyone knows what they should do if they witness or experience bullying. Throughout the upcoming
week, we will build knowledge around what bullying is and focus on how bullying is linked to different
kinds of power. We encourage you to discuss different misconceptions about bullying and look at the
way bullying is linked to a power imbalance. Report bullying because you care about those involved!
When it happens, talk to a caring adult, at school or at home. Use the free and anonymous HWDSB
Helps service by text to 905-963-0066, the app for iOS and Android, or by web chat.

Call 911 in case of emergency.
