Update on learning model choices and timelines-Please read

Hello Spring Valley families:

I am hoping everyone is safe and healthy during this period of remote learning. Thank you to
our parents and caregivers for supporting our students as they participate in remote learning.
We recognize that families have challenges they are working through now and we appreciate
your efforts.

Below are a few important pieces of information. Please read through and contact the school if
you have any questions or concerns.

Device Access:
If your child is in need of a device in order to connect to remote learning please contact the
school at the above email or telephone and someone will connect with you.

School Building Update:
The building is in very good shape and ready for staff and students. We hope that it will not be
too long before everyone is back in the building. Information on the First Day Routines will be
sent out once we know the in-school start date.

Transitions (remote or in-person learning)

As the school board communicated in its December update to families, it is moving forward with
the elementary transition between remote and in-person learning on February 25. Based on this
date and the previous commitment to a February transition, the board needs to be prepared and
so is gathering the information now.
Families who wish to switch learning models between remote and in-person on February 25,
must complete the Elementary Transition Between Remote and In-Person (Option Request
Form). The form is available in the Parent Portal, which opened today, Monday, January 18,
2021 at 9:00 a.m. It will close on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Only complete this
form if you would like to request a change in delivery model.
If we do not hear from you, your child/ren’s placement stays the same.
Parents and guardians who choose to move from in-person to remote learning will immediately
transition to remote learning if school resumes on February 11.

The transition date from remote to in-person learning is Thursday, February 25, 2021. This
transitions will only occur if in-person learning has resumed.

A third transition will be available in the spring. Dates will be shared once confirmed.

Parent Portal Support:
The Parent Portal is the first and preferred method to register your choice. Some parents,
however, may need assistance if you are unable to access the Parent Portal.

Call or email Spring Valley School if you require support and school office staff will input
your choice into HWDSB’s student information system if you are unable to access the
Parent Portal.
