At the end of the 2018-19 school year, Sir John A. Macdonald, along with Delta Secondary School, will be closing.

Most current students at Sir John A Macdonald SS will be attending either  Bernie Custis Secondary School or Westdale Secondary School for the 2019-2020 school year.

Bernie Custis Secondary School is located at 1055 King Street East, across from Tim Hortons Field.  Westdale Secondary School is located at 700 Main St West, near Westdale village.

During the week of December 17th you will be receiving a letter to explain new information regarding school closure and your options for September 2019.  Current SJAM students will have a choice between attending either Westdale or Bernie Custis Secondary School.  Details and maps are included in the letter you will  receive. You will find a yellow form where you can indicate your Option Decision which must be returned to the main office of the school by January 16.   Please join us for an information meeting on January 15 at either 1pm with interpreters or 6pm without.  Thank you, we look forward to seeing you.

Bernie Custis Secondary School Transition Committee

In accordance with HWDSB policy, a transition committee for the then New North Secondary school (now named Bernie Custis Secondary School)  was formed in December 2017. The committee meets on a monthly basis to discuss transition activities and advise on how to make the transition for all as smooth as possible. Where will I/my child be going?

Refer to the attached letter for information about school choice for the 2019-20 school year.  The letter has been provided in a number of languages in addition to English.   BCSS Choice – ENGLISH

All students currently part of tier 3 (SHSM) programs that will be part of Bernie Custis will be transferred there. As with all out-of-catchment programs, transportation will not be provided. Prospective students of the tier 3 programs at Bernie Custis may also apply to be out of catchment.

How can I get involved?

Sir John A. Macdonald has an active parent council that is involved in almost all transition activities. Meetings are open to all parents who have children attending the school. For more information, see the SJAM events calendar!
