Many scholarships are available for students applying to post-secondary.  Start your search today by visiting scholarshipscanada.com.  You will be required to create a personal account.

Another website dedicated to scholarships is Scholar Tree.  Students can find which scholarships are best fit for them by signing up at ScholarTree.ca.

To help with students prepare and transition to post-secondary life there is also the ScholarTree Blog. University students write the blog because the information needs to be as relevant to current student life as possible. The main areas of focus for the blog are:

Once you have applied to post-secondary school, you can start researching the assistance available to help you pay for it.  Make sure you check out the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) to see if you are eligible for a variety of grants and loans.  You may be surprised at how much money can be offered to you!  Once again, you will be required to create an account.

Students interested in applying for government issued loans to help pay for college or university, can follow the steps below to complete their OSAP application. A student should accept an offer of admission prior to applying for OSAP.

1. COLLECT ALL NECESSARY INFO: Use the application form as a checklist to collect information for your OSAP application. This will be useful so that you can apply all at once without having to stop and search for required information.
2. APPLY ONLINE: Log on to ontario.ca/osap and click on REGISTER. Move through the online application.
   • Notes:
     • Make sure to record your password somewhere secure. If you lose your password, you need to fill out forms and go to a bank to recover it (massive pain in the butt! – so don’t forget it!)
     • When they ask if you would like to have the funds paid directly to your future school, leave the box clicked to say yes (it’s one less thing that you have to organize)
     • This one application will qualify you for both student loans AND grants (which are money that you do not have to pay back)
     • You can begin an application, save part way through, and later finish the application
3. VISIT THE POST OFFICE: Once your online application is complete, print and complete the MSFAA (Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement) form with your banking information. Deliver (in person) to a designated post office. Also, bring your SIN card and valid photo ID. See a list of post offices here: List of Designated Post Office in Hamilton
4. MAIL DOCUMENTS TO FUTURE SCHOOL: Next, you can print and submit any remaining documents OSAP has requested (such as proof of parent’s income or proof of dependents). These documents can be uploaded to your online OSAP account or mailed to the financial aid office at the school you will be attending (eg. Financial aid office at Mohawk College or Brock University).

Applications will take 3-4 weeks to process, so check back online for the status of your application.
