Human Development and Sexual Health Information

Hello Parents and Caregivers,

The Ministry of Education has published a revised Health & Physical Education curriculum. As the curriculum has not been updated since 1998, there have been several changes in all areas. We recognize that the changes to the health curriculum related to Human Development and Sexual Health are of particular interest to many parents.

The full Ontario curriculum outlines overall and specific expectations and can be found here:   Ontario Health & PEHAL Logo

Students in grade 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8  will be bringing home a letter sharing information about the upcoming Human and Sexual Development Unit very soon.

Please review the letter and return the tear-off bottom portion.

Parent Guides from the Ministry of Education for your further information and understanding:

A Parent’s Guide To The Revised Health & Physical Education Curriculum, Grades 1 to 12

A Parent’s Guide:  Human Development and Sexual Health in the Health and Physical Education, Grades 1 – 6

Gr. 7 – 12 Parent Guide:  Human Development & Sexual Health

The assumption behind the curriculum is that the parents are the first and best teachers in the student’s life. We hope that sharing this information supports parents in making informed decisions and be able support at home what is being taught in class.

Questions?  Please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.
