Autism Awareness Day – March 31st
At Sir William Osler, we will be honouring World Autism Day on Friday March 31st, 2017!  Students are encouraged to donate a toonie towards Autism.  Toonies will be collected on the morning of March 31st. All proceeds will be donated to Autism Ontario. To bring about awareness, students are welcome to wear PJs or a shade of blue on Friday March 31st.  Together we will be comfy and  “Light it up Blue”.

Water Polo
Following the swim team, we move into Water Polo.  All swim team members are welcome to play Water Polo.  A clinic will take place on May 9th at Dundas Pool followed by a tournament at McMaster University on May 18th.  Questions see Mr. Dougherty

Global Settlement Deep Learning Inquiry Project
Classes 8A & 8C are working on inquiries that  address a challenge to settlement occurring somewhere in the world and come up with a way to help.

Laces for Life Fundraising – Please Donate Shoes for Senegal in the bin in front of Mr. Siertsema’s room. Coming soon to Sir William Osler, Lacelets (Lace Bracelets) for sale to support shipping costs.  Stay tuned for more updates!  

Music Matters!
Our Grade 7 and 8 bands will be performing at Sherwood Secondary School for HWDSB Middle School Bandfest on Friday April 7!  This will be a great opportunity for them to get some feedback from a professional conductor, as well as listen to other bands in the same grades, from different schools across the board.  The grade 3 – 5 students are playing their recorders very well and practicing them at home. They will be learning many songs, including some Canadian songs to celebrate Canada’s 150th!  The grade 6 students  have chosen and are beginning to  learn their band instruments. They are progressing very well as they learn to read music and take care of their instruments.    

New to Kindergarten Information Night – May 18th – 5:45 pm – 7:00 pm
New to kindergarten families are welcome to attend an information and hands-on orientation night.  Session begins in Learning Commons followed by classroom activities.  Come on in and get your passport and learn about beginning kindergarten at SWO!

Library Club on Day 4
Day 4 is Library Club in the Learning Commons, first part of second nutrition break.  Open to Grades 6 – 8.  Come try out Library Club today!

Intramural Badminton – Second Nutrition Break
Come on into the gym and have some fun playing badminton.  Every day features a great turn-out!

Jump Rope Club
In April, a Jump Rope Club will run at 2nd break on Day 2.  What’s it all about?  All levels are welcome from gr. 3 – 8.  Participants will learn single rope, partners, long rope & double dutch skills.  Our parent instructor, Mrs. Way,  will be running the 10 weeks of sessions.

We Are Silent – April 28, 2017
Issues like child labor, child soldiers, and access to water and education, drown out the voices of youth across the world. Currently, the group is working on preparing a recognition for the children who don’t have voice in this world.

Healthy Action Team
Fruit Kebab sales are underway to raise money for the hydration station.  First round of sales feature the sale 100 kebabs. DARED-TO-TRI
For students in grade 6, 7 and 8, there will be an information meeting regarding SWO’s participation in the Dared-To-Tri event this year. Registration packages coming out in the next week.  Questions?  See Mr. Siertsema

Swim Team
70 grade 6, 7 & 8 students are practising for the swim team weekly at the Dundas Pool. The swim meet will be at McMaster University on May 1st.  Go swimmers go!  Questions?  See Mr. Dougherty.

Go Girls Club – Fridays 1st Nutrition Break 
A big thanks to all who supported the Bake Sale.  It was a success!  Proceeds will support school spirit events.
