Weekly Reminders

I must admit that, with everything going on, it was a fairly seamless week last week!  Thankfully!  And it’s onward and upward from here!


I would like to welcome back all returning students, and extend a warm welcome to all new students and parents!  I hope you had a wonderful summer, and trust everyone is all ready for another year of successful learning here at Sir Isaac Brock School.


Each week I will send out a Weekly Reminder to parents to let you know what is going on, keep you informed of things happening around Sir Isaac Brock, and send out reminders or ideas.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

HWDSB Elementary School Calendar, 2020 – 2021


Student (September) Information Forms – Now Online 

Every year we send out a Student (September) Information package to each student.  However, over the summer, the HWDSB has been working to move student forms that I normally send in the beginning of September to the Parent Portal.  I am pleased to announce that the following forms will be available as of last week on the Parent Portal.  Please log in to the Parent Portal and complete the following forms for EACH child…

  • Digital Tools Permission
  • Internet Use and Photo Consent
  • Media Consent Agreement
  • Elementary:  Nutrition Break Consent

To access these forms, please log in to the Parent Portal and then click on “FORMS” on left hand side.   You will then see a screen with all the forms available to choose from.  Later in September, the following forms will be available:   Student Information Verification, and Elementary:  Emergency School Closure.



Please note that school starts at 8:15 a.m.  Please keep in mind that regular and punctual attendance at school is critical for the student’s learning and achievement of course expectations.  In addition, by coming on time, it ensures minimal disruption to teaching and learning process in the classroom, and it also promotes self-discipline and time management skills.  Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.


IMPORTANT MESSAGE – Attendance Reporting by Parents

Please note that families at all HWDSB schools must use the SafeArrival system to report absences.  Please report your child’s absence by using the website go.schoolmessenger.ca, by using the School Messenger mobile app for Apple and Google phones, or by calling 844-506-4350.  We have more detailed information on our school website and on the HWDSB website at www.hwdsb.on.ca.  Your cooperation in keeping us informed by using this attendance system is appreciated.



IMPORTANT – Is Your Email Address Up to Date???

HWDSB adapted this new attendance system last school year to make it easier for you to report – and respond to – a child’s school absence.  SafeArrival lets you use a website, mobile app, or an interactive toll-free phone number to report an absence in advance.  However, an email address is required in order for you to log in to SafeArrival and to receive notifications.  As a result, it is imperative that email addresses are current in order for the upcoming roll out of this app.  Without a current email address, you will NOT be able to set up the account.  If you are unable to locate your son or daughter through the site or the app, please reply to this email or call the office to ensure we have a current and correct email address in our system.  Please note that this email distribution list that I use to send out Weekly Reminders and monthly calendars is NOT connected to the Attendance program.  If you are unable to locate your son or daughter on the website or app, please click “Reply” to this message and I will manually enter each email address into the Attendance program.  Learn more about SafeArrival at bit.ly//safearrivalHWDSB.

Boomerang Lunches 

This year we will be implementing a boomerang lunch and snack program.  The purpose of this program is not only to reduce the amount of food and food-related waste, but to create the safest environment possible in our classrooms!  We are socially distancing and reducing the amount of movement around the classroom, even during lunch and snack time.  For this reason, we are asking that you send a waste-free lunch, using reusable food and drink containers, or that you provide your child with a small bag to place their garbage in.  This small “garbage bag” will be placed back into their lunch bags and brought home for disposal.  We are also asking that you send your child to school with a reusable water bottle as we now have a water filling station to replace our fountains.  Please ensure that the water bottle has a lid to prevent water spilling onto the floor and causing a potential slipping hazard.  Thank you for your support and understanding!


Remote / Online Learning Students 

I understand that are a few parents who registered for Remote / Online Learning have not been contacted by their new “remote” teachers.  We are asking parents and guardians for your patience should there be some adjustments to the online classes.  HWDSB expects families will be contacted this week.  However, some students will have their start further delayed.  HWDSB apologizes for the inconvenience and appreciates the understanding.  In the meantime, if Remote / Online Learning parents would like to see updates, please visit the following link for updates, letters, Parent Portal problems, etc…



**EPI-Pens and Inhalers**

If you are a parent of a child who uses either an EPI-Pen and/or an inhaler, it is imperative that you complete separate (yellow) medical forms, sign it, have the doctor sign it, and return it to the office as soon as possible.  In addition, we ask that you please send or drop off a spare EPI-Pen and/or puffer as soon as possible.  Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated as the health and safety of your child is imperative.

If you moved over the summer, or your child will not be coming to Sir Isaac Brock School in September, please email tdrage@hwdsb.on.ca, or call and leave a voicemail message at (905) 561-0814.  We appreciate your assistance in letting us know if your child will not be attending our school.
