Weekly Reminder

We have had two great weeks so far!  Let’s keep that momentum going!

Just to let you know, I am re-attaching the September calendar, and re-sending some of the reminders from last week for those parents who are just coming on to my email list.  So I do apologize for repeat information for those who received my Weekly Reminders last Monday, however, I want to ensure everyone is informed and has all of the information for a great school year!

I have attached a copy of the September calendar with all upcoming important dates.  Also please find below your weekly reminders and notes to start off the year…

September 2019

Thursday, September 19th

  • School Council Meeting (3:00 p.m.)

Friday, September 20th

  • PA Day (**no school**)

Student (September) Information Forms

I realize you may have been inundated with papers over the last coupe of weeks, however, please note that a package of forms was sent home on the first day of school.  It is important that you return the completed forms to the teacher so that we can update our files, note any medical issues / concerns, and ensure the proper permission forms are signed so that your child does not miss out on any upcoming trips.  Please ensure you send the completed forms back to the teacher ASAP.  (Please note that all forms that need to be returned to the school are IN COLOUR to make it easier for you.)

Student Information Verification Forms– Last week, you received a white form called “Student Information Verification” with yellow instructions at the top.  Kindly review your child’s information on the form, make any necessary changes, and return the form even if there are no changes.  This is how we update our files for accurate telephone numbers, emergency contacts, and medical concerns.  Thank you in advance for your help in ensuring our records are up to date.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE – Attendance Reporting by Parents

Please note that families at all HWDSB schools must use the SafeArrival system to report absences.  Please report your child’s absence by using the website go.schoolmessenger.ca, by using the School Messenger mobile app for Apple and Google phones, or by calling 844-506-4350.  We have more detailed information on our school website and on the HWDSB website at www.hwdsb.on.ca.  Your cooperation in keeping us informed by using this attendance system is appreciated.

IMPORTANT – Is Your Email Address Up to Date???

HWDSB adapted this new attendance system last school year to make it easier for you to report – and respond to – a child’s school absence.  SafeArrival lets you use a website, mobile app, or an interactive toll-free phone number to report an absence in advance.  However, an email address is required in order for you to log in to SafeArrival and to receive notifications.  As a result, it is imperative that email addresses are current in order for the upcoming roll out of this app.  Without a current email address, you will NOT be able to set up the account.  If you are unable to locate your son or daughter through the site or the app, please reply to this email or call the office to ensure we have a current and correct email address in our system.  Please note that this email distribution list that I use to send out Weekly Reminders and monthly calendars is NOT connected to the Attendance program.  If you are unable to locate your son or daughter on the website or app, please click “Reply” to this message and I will manually enter each email address into the Attendance program.  Learn more about SafeArrival at bit.ly//safearrivalHWDSB.

When you reply, please use the following format…

Your Child(rens) Name(s):

Your Name:

Your Email Address:

Your Phone Number(s):  (please indicate whether it’s cell/landline/etc.)

Meet the Teacher (Thursday, October 3rd)

Mark it on your calendar!  Meet the Teacher night will be held on Thursday, October 3rd from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Please note this is not a Parent / Teacher Interview.  This is a time for your child to introduce you to his or her teacher.  It will be a fun night so be sure to come out and meet your child’s teacher!

Lates

We noticed a number of students already coming late to school.  Please note that school starts at 8:15 a.m.  Please keep in mind that regular and punctual attendance at school is critical for the student’s learning and achievement of course expectations.  In addition, by coming on time, it ensures minimal disruption to teaching and learning process in the classroom, and it also promotes self-discipline and time management skills.  Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

**EPI-Pens and Inhalers**

If you are a parent of a child who uses either an EPI-Pen and/or an inhaler, it is imperative that you complete separate (yellow) medical forms, sign it, have the doctor sign it, and return it to the office as soon as possible.  In addition, we ask that you please send or drop off a spare EPI-Pen and/or puffer as soon as possible.  Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated as the health and safety of your child is imperative.

Bus Transportation

For all bus transportation issues, please call (905) 523-2318.

Courtesy Transportation – IMPORTANT!

Students who do not qualify for Board approved busing must apply for “Courtesy Bus Transportation” every school year.  Forms are at the school office and should have been completed before the end of last school year.  Only once permission has been granted by administration in writing, may the child use the bus service.  Courtesy busing will be up to the discretion of the administration and be based upon age of child, needs, and spaces available.  Courtesy bus riders must apply and re-apply every year.  Please note that bus eligibility changes from Kindergarten to Grades 1 to 5.  Also please note that students may not get on a bus if they have not received courtesy busing or are a registered rider.

Website Translation

For your convenience, the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) website is available in ninety (90) languages.  Translation is available in Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Filipino, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portugese, Serbian, Spanish, Urdu, and many other languages spoken by families of our students.  Simply visit www.hwdsb.on.ca then click on the word “Translate” at the very top of the page, and select the language of your choice.  If you need further help with this feature, please freel free to call the office.  I would love to assist you!
