Threat at Saltfleet

Dear Saltfleet District High School families,

Hamilton Police Service (HPS) attended Saltfleet Secondary School to investigate a potential threat reported today. The threat was found online and referenced shooting.

HPS assessed the threat and concluded their investigation with no concern for school safety. Administrators are following our Safe Schools protocol.

We take incidents like these very seriously. We continue to work with our school community to ensure students understand the impact threats have on individuals and the overall school climate.

Recently, there has been an increased number of threats made against school communities and HPS is working closely with Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB). As a result, the Director of Education and the Chair of the Board shared an open letter to the community.

We know this situation may make students anxious or upset. If so, you may want to refer to tips for adults supporting children and youth after distressing events. Students and families are encouraged to reach out to staff for support.

Students may wish to use the HWDSB Helps app, an anonymous way to find help for themselves for one another. Students can text 905-963-0066, download the app for iOS and Android, or engage in the web chat at www.hwdsb.on.ca/hwdsbhelps.

We thank all families for their understanding. We thank police for their support.

If you have any questions, please contact our school office.

Sincerely,

Glenn Cooke
Principal
