Welcome back to all of our Rockton Elementary School students and parents! We hope that everyone has had a great March Break and is safe and healthy. The next while will be a different kind of learning time for our students. To support at home learning, we have put together some on-line resources you may wish to investigate. We expect that the situation will become clearer over the next few days with regard to learning at home and how we can best support families. In the meantime, please make sure that your children have access to some good reading materials and have them engage with some of the resources below:
Ministry of Education: https://www.ontario.ca/page/learn-at-home
Pearson Canada: https://www.pearson.com/news-and-research/working-learning-online-during-pandemic.html
Forest of Reading:
The Forest of Reading is a paid program, however, in these unprecedented times, it is important that children have access to our program. The password website, which was previously only accessible to current registrants, is now open to the public for free at forestofreading.com. With over 500 resources for this year’s nominated titles and virtual author visits previously recorded, there is so much content for people to use.
VOTING: We have extended voting in the school-aged programs until June 1. Voting can be done through the Forest of Reading website under “Voting” in the top menu. We will plan to announce the winners on June 16, 17, and 18.
VIRTUAL AUTHOR VISITS: Upcoming Forest Fridays and Mercre-LIT are currently being rescheduled. You can view past recordings of our virtual author visits under the “Resources” section of the website.
More information and resources will be posted-please check back often.
