Remote/In-Person Elementary School Transition 2021

January 14, 2021

Dear Elementary Parents and Guardians,

Families have been asked to make several decisions during this pandemic related to the education of your child/ren. We know it is even more challenging now as HWDSB is included in the remote learning extension to February 10.

As communicated in our December update to families, we are moving forward with our elementary transition between remote and in-person learning on February 25. Based on this date and our previous commitment to a February transition, we need to be prepared and gather the information now.

Families who wish to switch learning models between remote and in-person on February 25, must complete the Elementary Transition Between Remote and In-Person (Optional Request Form).

The form will be available in the Parent Portal and opens on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. It will close on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Only complete this form if you would like to request a change in delivery model.

If we do not hear from you, your child/ren’s placement stays the same.

Parents and guardians who choose in-person to remote learning will immediately transition to remote learning if school resumes on February 11.

This Elementary Transition is:

  • based on class space available as spaces at in-person schools are limited due to safety requirements for physical distancing and small class sizes
  • based on your child/ren’s mode of learning, whether remote or in-person, prior to the Provincial Closure and Remote Learning Extension.

If the demand for in-person learning is greater than the number of available spaces at schools, additional staff might be added to meet the demand.

Parent Portal Support

The Parent Portal is the first and preferred method to register your choice. Some parents, however, may need assistance if you are unable to access the Parent Portal.

  • Call your school or email using the Elementary School Emails listing if you are unable to access the Parent Portal.
  • School office staff will input your choice into HWDSB’s student information system if accessing the Parent Portal is a barrier.
  • Parents and guardians from the remote learning school can contact the main office for support.

Each family is experiencing their own unique circumstance at this time. We will continue to be flexible and review requests for students to transition at any time, based on changes to family circumstance. Contact your principal at any time to initiate that established process.

Thank you,

Manny Figueiredo

Director of Education
