November 9th Updates

Dear Ray Lewis Families,

School Re-organization

We will continue to support our students who were impacted by the reorganization and who are adjusting to the new routines last week.  Our Resource and Administration Team continue to check in on all our classrooms as well. We are proud to see how well our Ray Lewis students are managing and adjusting through this transition and the resiliency demonstrated.  I would also like to thank our parent community for your support and understanding through these challenging times as our school works through many changes due to COVID-19.

Class 7A

We would like to welcome Ms. Kurth to Ray Lewis who will be the Grade 7A homeroom teacher. Ms. Kurth will be reaching out to welcome families of students in this homeroom class soon.  We appreciate your patience and support.

Class 1/2A

We would like to welcome Ms. Wright to Ray Lewis who will be the Grade 1/2A homeroom teacher. Ms. Wright will be reaching out to welcome families of students in this homeroom class soon.  We appreciate your patience and support.

Nutrition Break & Physical Education

With the cooler weather approaching and wet and icy field conditions we typically experience during this time of year, we are working to ensure students are outside as much as possible with appropriate physical distancing and supervision. Students will continue to enjoy outdoor time in their class assigned zones that are 2 metres apart from other cohorts.  Physical Education and DPA (Daily Physical Activity) will continue to be outside as much as possible.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather (e.g., hats, mittens, warm coats, boots).

Preparing for Colder Weather

Although this week is quite warm, we will be expecting colder weather soon.  During entry time students will go directly to their classroom and sanitize/wash hands upon entering their room so they are not removing gloves outside of the building.  We will continue this process for outdoor breaks as well.  We will be opening lockers for assigned classes and for classes that have more space to store items, we will be using assigned baskets for students to store boots and other winter materials.  Lockers and baskets will not be shared, and we will use a colour coded system to allow for appropriate spacing when students are retrieving or dropping off items.

School Council

We welcome all parents/guardians who are willing to volunteer their time to participate on our School Council for the 2020-2021 school year. Typically, School Councils meet in person on a regular basis to discuss school-wide interests and to make recommendations to the Principal. This year, due to Public Health considerations, meetings will be held virtually on MS Teams. Please email or call the school if you are interested in attending a Council Meeting. Our next one is on Tuesday November 24th @ 7pm.

School Spirit Day

We will be having our next Spirit Day on Thursday November 26th. Staff and students can show their respect and appreciation for all our front-line workers as we celebrate HEALTH CARE HEROES DAY! Students are invited to wear any healthcare gear and can dress it up with a CAPE! Together we hope to show our support for all the people who put themselves on the line to keep us safe.

Thanks again to all our families who support the school community as we continue to navigate this unique school year together.

Respectfully,

J. Burleigh
Principal
