Parent Update – October 13

Dear Ray Lewis Families,

I hope this message finds you well.  We are solidly into our second month of school and we are trucking along with learning happening in classrooms and laughing on the playground.  It’s a great place to be!

As I have mentioned staff and students are rolling up their sleeves and lots of learning and work is happening in classrooms.  Students are demonstrating what they know, and teachers are collecting work samples and making observations in preparation of Progress Reports.  These reports will be sent home with students on October 29th.

We’re happy to announce that the school’s Direction Team is going to be re-introducing the DREAM Awards at the end of October! We will be resuming our practice of recognizing and celebrating student successes with the DREAM Awards. Although we are unable to have live assemblies, a virtual slideshow will be created for our students and will be shown in all of our classrooms. Teachers will select students in their homeroom or subject specialty (French, Phys. Ed, Music) who have demonstrated ANY of the DREAM qualities since the beginning of the school year.

Determination

Respect
Empathy
Acceptance
Mastery

We are very excited to have this tradition continuing as we have so many students who are working hard to exhibit these character traits each and every day!

Last week, we completed our third and final evacuation drill of the fall.  These drills while disruptive to routines and learning are important to keep everyone safe.  We also held a successful Hold and Secure and will be practicing our Shelter in Palace and Lockdown drill in the upcoming months ahead. I will share specific information about these drills closer to the date.

Halloween may be celebrated on Friday October 30th.  Students may opt to wear a costume or Halloween themed colours (no weapons or soft surface accessories) and teachers may plan some class/cohort activities on this day if they wish. Parents may not send in any treats or gifts.  While it is a lovely gesture, it contravenes our COVID safety protocols.

Colder Weather – Nutrition Breaks, PE class and DPA are for the most part, happening outside.  Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately to participate outside as the weather gets colder.

As always please call or email the school with any questions you may have about Ray Lewis and your child’s program.

Sincerely,

J.Burleigh
