Spring Updates

Has spring finally sprung??  The long weekend provided us with at least one day of nice weather!  We look forward to warmer temperatures and sunnier days ahead.

A few reminders about some important events upcoming at Ray Lewis School:

Open House:  Our annual Open House is set for Thursday, May 9th from 5:00 until 6:30 pm.  Classes will be open for visits to see what students have been learning, the Book Fair will be here and Burger’s Priest will be on site to BBQ dinner for families.

Spring Concert:  Our amazing Intermediate Band will be hosting their annual Spring Concert on May 15th.  Doors open at 6:00 pm and the concert will begin at 7:00 pm sharp.  All are welcome to attend!

Class Placements:  It is hard to believe but we are already looking ahead to next year.  The Staffing Process is underway and we will begin build classes for next year shortly.  We do not accept requests for students to be placed in a class with a specific teacher or with specific students, however, we will accept input into your child’s placement if you have a compelling educational reason.  If you do have information that will be helpful in determining your child’s class placement, please send that in writing to the attention of the principal.  You are also welcome to use the following form found here.

Book Fair:  The Book Fair will once again be visiting Ray Lewis School.  The Book Fair arrives on May 8th and will be open to students and families over the Open House and for a few days after Open House.  More details will come home with your child.

Grade 8 Graduation:  The Class of 2019 will be taking part in graduation ceremonies on Thursday, June 20th.  The ceremony begins promptly at 5:00 pm and will take place in our gymnasium.  The dinner/dance will follow at Carmen’s C Hotel.  More information will be coming home in the near future.

Immunizations:  Immunization checks from Public Health will be happening shortly at Ray Lewis School.  Parents are responsible for notifying Public Health Services when their child receives an immunization so that their record is complete.  Public Health is responsible for screening vaccine records and notifying parents when they are not up-to-date on their immunizations. This process occurs between the ages of 7 and 17 years.  If your child’s record is not up-to-date you should be getting notification from Public Health.  Please be sure to act on this information.  Students for whom records are not up-to-date are subject to suspension from school.

Upcoming Events:  Please continue to check our school website calendar for upcoming events.  We are working hard to keep this information current and accurate for parents.  As a reminder, here are some important dates you will want to add to your family calendar:

May 9-Open House
May 15-Spring Concert (Intermediate Band)
May 16-17-Grade 7 Vaccinations
May 21-EQAO Begins
May 31-Sub Day
