Mary Hopkins – Return to School – Aug 29

Good Evening Families,

We hope that everyone was able to have an enjoyable summer.  We are excited to begin a new school year and to be welcoming our staff and students back to in-person learning.  For those of you that live near the school, you will have noticed that we have three additional portables on our blacktop.  Our school’s enrollment continues to grow alongside the growth of the Waterdown community that we serve.  As a result of this growth, we will be welcoming a Vice Principal (Lori MacNab) to Mary Hopkins.  After a year supporting the HWDSB remote school program, she is eager to join our school community and get to know our students.

As we finalize our plans, families will be receiving additional information around our first day and general school routines.  Our school office re-open on Monday.  Please be patient as Mrs. Gunn and Mrs. Zrostek are will need time to work through the accumulation phone messages and emails from the summer.  We will endeavor to respond to everyone as quickly as possible.

Important Dates

August 30 – School Office Re-Opens

September 6 – Labour Day (school closed)

September 7 – PA Day (No Classes)

September 8 – First Day Grade 1-5 / New to Kindergarten Orientation Visits

September 9 – First Day Kindergarten

Classroom Assignments– As you can imagine, this has been a transitional year for many families.  As our staff head back to the school this week, we will be updating our class lists with new registrations and student departures.  This may require some shifting to accommodate actual enrollment vs the spring predicted enrollment.   As a result, we cannot accommodate classroom requests at this time. However, if there is important information that you need to share with us around your child’s learning needs, please contact the school.

Bell Times – A reminder that our bell times have moved forward 5 minute this year.  School hours will be 9:15 am – 3:35 pm.
