Military Co-op Programs

The co-op program can introduce you to a career opportunity with the Canadian Armed Forces where you can give yourselves a chance to learn a trade or other potential opportunities. Please see the military intention form below.

MacNab Co-op Programs

MacNab CO-OP:  Students usually take co-op in Grade 11 or 12, and spend 3 hours, either the morning or the afternoon in either semester, at a placement where they have the opportunity to explore a career, while they earn 2 credits.  Students must have taken a course that is related to the co-op placement and should be 16 years old with 14 credits.  A co-op Application, including parent’s signature and a Skills-Based resume, must be completed before a placement will be found.  See the Co-op Office in Room 1006 for an Application Form.

Placements are found in the area of the student’s interest i.e. teaching (elementary schools), day care, auto, retail, animal care, health, civic affairs, banks, law, hotels, restaurants……….

MacNab builds-hands-on construction placements with local contractors for students interested in construction-earn up to 6 credits working 9-5 each day.  Must be 16 years old & like technology, hard work and long hours.

MacNab Specialist High Skills Major in Health & Wellness-grade 11-TPJ3C2/3M2 Offers 3 Weeks Work Experience in Healthcare: *fitness

Students must complete at least 2 co-op credits in a Health/Wellness related placement.

Military Co-op (Militia)

Offered 2nd semester only. All day placement. Students must have a minimum of 15 credits and be 16 years old.  Students must meet standards of Canadian Armed Forces (interview, fitness, medical & aptitude tests) Some weekends involved

Limeridge Mall Co-op

Offered 1st and 2nd semester.  Full day program.  For students who have an interest in the retail business.  Program operates from the K-Lite FM Building.

Students earn 1 Discovering and 1 Navigating the Workplace Credits + 2 Retail Co-op Credits.

Work In Progress Program

Automotive Service Technician Course - Mohawk College

Offered 2nd semester only

For OYAP students (MUST be signed/sponsored as an apprentice)

All day co-op placement.  Students spend Monday, Wednesday and Friday at an Auto Co-op Placement and Tuesday and Thursday at Mohawk College earning Part 1 Apprenticeship in Auto Mechanics from Mohawk + 4 co-op credits.

Early Childhood Education - Mohawk College CCE

Offered 2nd semester only

For OYAP students (MUST be signed/sponsored as an apprentice)

All day co-op placement.  Students spend Monday, Wednesday and Friday at a Daycare Co-op placement and Tuesday and Thursday at Mohawk College earning 4/8 courses toward their Part 1 Apprenticeship in Early Childhood Education from Mohawk + 4 co-op H.S. credits.

Students must be a graduate or 1-4 credits short of graduating and have a Parenting or Living/Working with Children or Anthropology/Psychology Course

It is recommended that students have completed all of their compulsory courses.

Child & Youth Worker Apprenticeship - Mohawk College

Offered 2nd semester only.

For OYAP students (MUST be signed/sponsored as an apprentice) All day co-op placement.

Students spend Monday, Wednesday and Friday at a Social Work Co-op Placement and Tuesday and Thursday at Mohawk College earning 4/8 courses toward their Part 1 apprenticeship in Child Youth Work from Mohawk + 4 co-op H.S. credits. Students must be a graduate or 1-4 ELECTIVE courses short of graduating and have a Gr. 9 Individual and Family Living, Parenting or Living/Working with Children, or Anthropology/Psychology Course.

Recommended that students have all their compulsory courses.

Construction Craft Worker Apprenticeship

Offered 2nd semester only.

For OYAP students (MUST be signed/sponsored as an apprentice)

Students must be a graduate or 1-4 ELECTIVE courses short of graduating and should have a Senior construction Technology Course.  Recommended that students have ALL their Compulsory courses.  All day placement, for students wanting a career in the construction worker area-forklift, skid steer operation, concrete cutting and coring, traffic control, propane safety, compaction, chainsaw safety…..

Students earn their level 1 in Craft Labourer Apprenticeship + 4 Co-op credits.

Transportation to Liuna Mancinelli apprentice Training Centre in Winona and the construction site is the student’s responsibility.

Accelerated OYAP Level I - Cook & General Carpenter

Cook:

  • In-school training at Cathedral H.S.
  • Must be 17 years old with 24 credits.

General Carpenter

  • Training at Mohawk College Semester 2.
  • Must be 17 years old with 24 credits.

School-based Specialized OYAP

  • HAIRSTYLING – Offered at Delta
  • GENERAL CARPENTRY – Westdale School-Semester 2, Senior students
  • WELDING – Nora Frances Henderson S.S.
  • HORTICULTURE & LANDSCAPING – Saltfleet S.S.
