Lost & Found: Our Lost and Found is once again over-flowing, and ready for a clean out! Items will be laid out during Open House for student and parent viewing. Any items left over at the end of the month will be donated to charity. Please have your child check the Lost and Found for any missing articles.

Snack Program – Our healthy Snack Program continues into April and is available to all students to use as needed. The goal of our snack program is to support learning and healthy development. Nutritious food helps kids learn and focus. Students are offered a healthy snack (i.e. apples, yogurt tubes, cheese strings, grapes, carrots, muffins etc.) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, to help start their day off right!

Head Lice – Head lice (pediculosis) occurs from time to time in each school. Anyone can get head lice. School-aged children get lice more than adults. When children play, their heads often touch. Lice crawl from head to head. Head lice are spread by direct contact only (e.g. head to head, shared clothing). Head lice are tiny bugs that live only on the scalp of human beings. They are the size of a pinhead. Lice lay eggs on the hair. These eggs are also called nits. Live eggs are dark. They can also be the colour of the hair they are on. Nits are half the size of a pinhead. They stick to the hair and do not fall off if you touch them. After the eggs have hatched, the shells are white. These empty shells stay on the hair, as the hair grows.

Help us reduce the spread of head lice. Please check your child/ren’s hair for lice and eggs.

How to check for lice:

Use a bright light. Use a magnifying glass if you have one. Spread the hair with a comb and look at the scalp. Lice crawl very fast, but they do not fly or jump. Look for eggs on the hair close to the scalp. Lice like to live in warm spots. They are often found on the hair behind the ears or where the hair meets the neck. Look for open sores and scabs on the head. Check all the people that live in your house.

What to do if lice/eggs are found:

If you find that your child has head lice, please notify the school. Your child will never be identified to other parents.  Please speak to a health professional regarding treatment for the lice. Students with lice are asked to complete the first lice treatment before they return to school. If you have any further questions related to head lice, please contact Hamilton Public Health Services at 905-546-2489 or follow this link Head Lice | City of Hamilton
