Hi All,

Pink Shirt Day 2020: On Wednesday, February 26, 2020, all HWDSB students and staff are encouraged to wear a pink shirt in honour of Pink Shirt Day – a day to raise awareness and stand up against bullying. What is Pink Shirt Day? Pink Shirt or Anti-Bullying Day is recognized annually in communities across Canada. Individuals in schools and workplaces come together by wearing pink shirts to show they are against bullying. The focus for Pink Shirt Day 2020 is “lift each other up; a simple but powerful message encouraging us to look beyond our differences and celebrate the things that make us unique. When we lift each other up, we see past the things that separate us and see instead the things that unite us as people.” (http://www.pinktshirtday.ca/)

Isn’t Pink Shirt Day the same as International Day of Pink? While both days have similar origins, it is important to make a distinction between the purpose for each day. Pink Shirt Day has a general anti-bullying focus, while International Day of Pink focuses more specifically on homophobic and transphobic bullying. In April, HWDSB will also come together to recognize the International Day of Pink in solidarity and support of our Two Spirit and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Pink Shirt Fundraiser:  Our recent Pink T-Shirt fundraiser was to recognize International Day of Pink, April 8, 2020.  We had 50 on-line t-shirt orders.  Our profit was $104.50.  This will go to purchasing recess equipment.  We thank you for supporting our school and promoting an inclusive school.

Crayola Colour Cycle:  Our School Council would like you to know that we have begun the Crayola Colour Cycle Program.  This program recycles used markers.  We will have a box in our  Office where you place any used plastic markers.  More information can be found here: ColorCycle_Parents_LetterV1

Huntington Park Rec Centre: Our Rec Centre offers various programs for our community.  We are partnering with them to promote these activities.  Recreation Coordinator Samantha Remani came on Wednesday to talk with our grade 8 students.  Here are two programs they will be offering in the near future: Black Knight Games Poster Beats City Workshop – Huntington
