Weekly Update

Hello Highview Families

Here are a few things to be aware over the next few days.

November 20 – Sports and Jersey Day – Please Remember to Wear your favourite sports shirt or jersey this Friday!

November 23 – Hold and Secure Drill

“Hold and Secure”: (School most likely to be notified by Hamilton Police Services)
  • is used when the school is secured due to an ongoing situation outside and not related to the school that requires all persons to remain in the building
  • if staff and/or students are outdoors, the school bell will ring to indicate re-entry
  •  the school continues to function normally, with the exterior doors locked until the situation is resolved;
  •  a staff member posted near each entrance to ensure no one leaves the building; all movement in and out of the school is restricted; exterior doors are to be locked
  •  exterior facing windows should be covered or blinds drawn, lights dimmed, where possible.
  •  Police will notify the school when it can come out of ‘Hold and Secure.’
  •  An announcement will be made to end “Hold and Secure”
One “Hold and Secure” drill must occur once each year. We know this can be stressful for some students and families but our goal is to ensure all students are prepared and know how to be safe in the event of an emergency.
We will continue to follow COVID 19 protocols for all drills.
November 25 – School Council Meeting
November  25 – Sherwood Virtual Open House at 6:30 P.M. Letters have been sent home to all Grade 8 students.
November 27 – Communication to families regarding student progress. Staff will be sending information to families regarding the interview process in the coming days.
Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather each day, and to arrive at school on time and meet with your for entry. We are trying to avoid using the front door in the morning as it is challenging to maintain physical distance.
Thank you,
Mr. McLean and Mr. Contant
