Get Real Grade 5-8 Presentation

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In order to continue our learning about inclusivity and work toward the elimination of all types of bullying at Helen Detwiler, the HD Middle School has decided to host the “GET REAL MOVEMENT INCLUSIVITY WORKSHOP” on January 23, 2020. The GET REAL presenters will be offering 2 separate workshops on that day, the first to Grade 5 and 6 students and the second to Grade 7 and 8 students. Student Council will be covering the cost of these workshops so attendance is free to all our Grade 5-8 students.

The GET REAL motto of “Building Compassion Through Sharing Stories” is central to their motivation of combatting 2SLGBTQ+ discrimination and bullying in schools, summer camps, and workplaces across Canada. Students will go through exercises to “unlearn” harmful 2SLGBTQ+ discriminatory language, to understand that everyone has unique challenges in their lives, a story to share, and a chance to impact someone else’s life for the better and that we must strive to never shame or judge others.
