What is Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting?
The primary purpose of assessment and evaluation is to improve student learning. Information gathered through assessment helps teachers to determine students’ strengths and weaknesses in their achievement of the curriculum expectations in each subject/course in each grade. This information also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students’ needs and in assessing
The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) ensures greater accountability and better quality in Ontario’s publicly funded school system. An arm’s-length agency of the provincial government, EQAO provides parents, teachers and the public with accurate and reliable information about student achievement. EQAO also makes recommendations for improvement that educators, parents, policy-makers and others in the education community can use to improve learning and teaching.

Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)
Upcoming Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test- Tuesday, March 31, 2020
OSSLT results do not count toward students’ grades, but successful completion of the test is a requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. There are supports for students who do not pass, including an opportunity to rewrite the test or to take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course.
Who Writes the OSSLT?
On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, Grade 10 students across the province will write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). The OSSLT will also be written by students who have not yet written the test or who were unsuccessful on their first attempt.
What is the format of the OSSLT?
The test consists of two booklets, each containing multiple-choice and written response questions. The test is given on one day in two 75-minute blocks. All of the questions are based directly on the expectations set out in The Ontario Curriculum, which is what teachers teach in the classroom every day
