Courtesy Bus Transportation
Students are eligible for student transportation if they live more than 1.6 km (grades 1 to 5) or 1.2 km (JK, SK) from the school, as determined by Transportation.
You can check to see if your child is eligible by inputting your information here: https://hwsts.mybusplanner.ca/TransportationEligibility
If your child does not meet the criteria for transportation, there is still an option to apply for courtesy transportation. Courtesy transportation may be granted if:
- available space exists on an existing bus route, once routes are firmly established (typically October)
- the student will be using an existing stop location
- the request is consistent for every am/pm of every school day
- the transportation is intended for a ride to/from school/home only
Terms of Approval:
- permission to ride as a courtesy rider shall not be considered to constitute a precedent or to establish a right for transportation
- permission may be withdrawn at any time if the seat is needed for an eligible student, if adjustment to the route is required, or for behavioural issues
- permission to ride is granted for no longer than the remainder of the current school year and all requests must be reapplied for annually
Process:
Parents or guardians of a Dundana student wishing to apply for a courtesy seat must first fill out the Application for Courtesy Transportation and return to the Dundana school office or to [email protected]. This form can be picked up from the school office, or is available here: Courtesy Bus Form
Once Transportation advises the school that we can now begin approving applications, these will be considered in order of need (e.g. age of student). Approved applications will then be forwarded by the school back to Transportation for inputting into the system.
Once Transportation has added the student to the database, parents/guardians will be notified and your child may begin riding the bus.
Typically, courtesy riders will receive notification sometime in October if their application has been approved.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office for more information.
