Preparing for Next Week’s Remote Learning

The following is a text copy of the synervoice phone message that went out earlier today, in case families missed that information.

Hello, this is Mrs Keery Bishop from Dundana school.  I Hope all of our Dundana families have been enjoying a well deserved break in the last week and a half, with a little more good times to come.

As you have probably seen, all classes will be held remotely next week.  If you submitted a request before the deadline for a device for your child to engage in learning, you will be receiving an email from me to pick that up on Monday morning.  At this time, devices are only being distributed for students in grades 1 to 5.  Kindergarten students who indicated that they needed a device will receive an email from me indicating alternative plans that can be offered.

At this time, HWDSB is not able to offer help with wifi needs.  If you indicated on the readiness survey that your child needed wifi support to engage in learning, please contact the office next week so that we can work on learning alternatives for your child with our educators.

You will notice this period of remote learning will differ significantly from last spring’s emergency remote learning.  Attendance will be taken by your child’s teacher twice a day.  A schedule of your child’s classes will be provided to you by educators on Monday.  Educators will be in communication with all families on Monday January 4th in the morning, giving you this information.  Educators will use the remainder of January 4th to prepare for online learning.  Classes for students will begin on Tuesday, January 5th .  Ministry requirements state that all students in grades 1 to 5 will engage in 225 minutes of learning each day and Kindergarten students will engage in 180 minutes of learning each day, which will be what educators use to guide their daily schedule.  Prep coverage teachers, such as music, phys ed and core French, will also be scheduled into the day’s learning as per our regular school schedule.

If you have any questions about the schedule or supports to guide your child’s online learning, please speak to your child’s educator about it on Monday.

We recognize that this is a difficult position for families already juggling so much.  Your efforts to help your child continue learning while students remain at home are truly appreciated.

I hope you are all able to stay safe, stay healthy and I hope we will see you back in the school very soon.

Additional Information:  If you did not complete the Remote Readiness survey or handed it in after the deadline, your child will not be offered a device at this time.  However, if your child needs a device, please contact the school office the week of January 4th and we will add you to a wait list for any following device distributions.
