Information About School Ventilation Protocols During Winter Months

At the beginning of this school year, HWDSB requested that classroom windows remain open during the school day to best align with recommendations provided by Public Health to increase fresh air ventilation in our buildings during Covid-19 times.  As the weather has gotten colder, that recommendation has been amended to continuing to encourage classroom staff to open windows where ever possible for as long as possible, while monitoring the classroom spaces for temperatures that become too cold.  School heating systems will continue to run at full capacity to further help support temperatures in the classroom.  However, at times your child’s classroom may be chillier than expected in a typical year.  Families are encouraged to ensure your child has warm layers to wear to school to help them feel comfortable when indoors.

As has been our practice so far this year, classes will also still be encouraged to take their learning outside whenever possible to allow for fresh air and mask breaks.  Thank you for continuing to support school staff by sending your child with suitable clothing for outdoor play and learning as well.  Please try to send all items with your child when they come to school; our office is getting overwhelmed by the number of items that are dropped off during the day that need to be taken to specific students.
