Hallowe’en Plans

Public Health and HWDSB Protocols have outlined the following restrictions for Hallowe’en activities at school this year:

  • Students can wear costumes to school as per prior years practice (e.g., no weapons, no costume masks that might impede vision, no inappropriate images, etc.)

·         Students choosing to wear a costume should come to the school already wearing the costume and keep the costume on for the duration of the day

  • Student costumes must be able to accommodate a face covering as per COVID requirements
  • No costume parades are permitted
  • No in-person assemblies are permitted
  • No sharing/distributing food or drink is permitted
  • Maintain safe practices including physical distancing and hand hygiene

Based on these parameters, Dundana staff have planned the following:

  • On Friday, October 30th, Dundana students are invited to come to school wearing a costume (no weapons, doesn’t impede vision, no loose parts that might get lost), or wearing orange and black, or their regular clothes.
  • Students who choose to wear a costume must come in costume to school.  If you think they might want to remove it at some point in the day, it would need to be easily removed in the classroom by the student, so appropriate clothing would need to be worn underneath.
  • Instead of our usual costume parade, our classes will be sharing photos and videos of the students that will be compiled for all of the students to watch in the afternoon.  Unfortunately, due to media consent concerns, this video cannot be made available to families
  • We will not be able to encourage the sharing of food or distribution of food items, even prepackaged ones.  Individual teachers may encourage students to bring in their own treat or extra snack to eat instead.  (Please see instructions from individual class teachers for more specific information).
  • We will also have classes participate in a new-to-Dundana event, a pumpkin decorating activity, where each class will be able to display their creative skills for the other classes during the day on October 30th.

Please consult your child’s teacher about any specific class plans.  We will be doing our best to make some fun Hallowe’en memories for our students next Friday.
