As you know, in June 2014, HWDSB Trustees approved the closure of Beverly Central and Dr. John Seaton and the construction of a new school on the Beverly Community Centre site. This was done to ensure efficient use of space and resources.
This new elementary school will be constructed on the Beverly Community Centre property, off Hwy. 8 in Rockton. This brand new elementary school will be constructed to meet the needs of students and the surrounding community.
The school is part of a joint community project with the City of Hamilton. The school will be designed to accommodate 465 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 in an approximately 46,000 square foot elementary school.
Attached to the school will be a 3,800 square foot community centre operated by the City of Hamilton.
Please view the New School Flyer for more information.
Beverley Central and Dr. John Seaton will remain open and continue to operate for their communities for the 2018-2019 school year.
What will be the name for the newly built school?
HWDSB’s Naming of School’s Policy will guide this process.
Is it a strain on HWDSB resources to build multiple schools at the same time?
Ministry funding has been secured for the Greensville and Beverly sites. The work of building the schools falls to contractors, not HWDSB staff.
How is the transition committee selected and when?
The parent component of the Transition Committee will be selected through the School Councils. School staff can select their own representatives. Students will be selected by the principals.
As we get closer to the end of construction, we will begin to seek interested parents to participate as transition committee members.
How many floors is the new school?
The new elementary school will be one floor.
Is there room for portables on the new school site if needed in the future?
