Important Updates: September 27-September 30

Hello Cootes Families!

We have had a busy but fun start-up with smiling faces and giggles all around!  Please see the following information for important updates for this week:

Re-Organization:

Each fall, HWDSB reviews elementary student enrolment in schools, and reorganizes staffing if actual enrolment differs from spring projections. It is normal for student enrolment to fluctuate a little. At our school this will mean a shift from an English grade 2/3 class to a straight grade 2 class, the opening of an additional English grade 3 class  and a shift from a English grade 1/2 class to a full grade 1 class.  Families of students who are directly impacted by this will be notified via letter by tomorrow.  The letter will outline next steps.  The starting day of our new organization is October 7.

School Council: Thursday September 27 5:30-6:30

We welcome all parents and guardians to our first School Council Meeting this Thursday at 5:30pm.  We will be holding our election vote at this time.  The meeting is taking place in our gymnanisum.

Gates in Playground:

You may notice that gates are being installed around the open areas of the back playground.  This is to support students in maintaining safety so that they are unable to leave school grounds at any time.  The gates will not be locked, but we ask that they do remain closed during the school day.  We thank you for helping to keep our community safe.

Cross Country:

Tomorrow is our Cross Country meet.  Students are excited for this day which will take place at Churchill Park.

Orange Shirt Day:

Friday September 30 is a Day of Reconciliation where we honour our indigenous communities by wearing the colour orange.

Meet the Teacher – October 20, 2022:

We invite all families to join us on October 20, 2022 in the back playground for a time of meeting and greeting.  Stay tuned for more upcoming information!

We look forward to working with you throughout the 2022-2023 school year!
