We All Count: HWDSB Student Census Extended to May 28, 2021

Thank you to those who have supported We All Count: HWDSB Student Census 2021. Please note that we are extending the deadline for this survey by one week to Friday, May 28, 2021.

The census asks Grade 5 to 12 students to complete – or, families to complete with younger students – questions about who students are, including the languages they speak, their race, ethnicity, religion or spiritual affiliation, gender identity, sexual orientation, (dis)abilities, place of birth and citizenship/immigration status.

This information will help schools better understand students. The census will help each school be a safer place where all students find what they need. Many students, families, educators and community members helped create the census. It will help HWDSB make decisions, based on evidence, that support equity, student achievement and well-being.

All students are encouraged to complete the census so that our school board has an accurate picture of who our students are.

Here are some important points to know:

• All of the emails to students in grades 5 to 12 and families of younger students have been sent. These emails include unique links to the census.
• If a Grade 5-12 student has not received an email, it may be because a parent/caregiver opted them out. Or, the student may need to check their junk mail folder.
• If a family of a Kindergarten to Grade 4 student did not receive the email, we may not have their accurate email address.
• If a student or a parent/caregiver has still not received an email and has looked into the previous issues, please contact the Student Census Team at [email protected].
• Educators in grades 5 to 12 will be able to take this additional time to introduce the census in class and give students time to complete the survey.
