Voting is now open to select Student Trustees for 2021-22

HWDSB students in grades 7 to 12 can now vote for who will represent their voice as Student Trustees for the 2021-22 school year.

From 9 a.m. Monday, April 26 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 30, students in grades 7 to 12 can cast their vote online.

To help voters make their decision, each of the 14 interested candidates was asked to submit a written profile and record video responses to three questions.

The Student Trustee position is a leadership opportunity for full-time HWDSB students who will be in Grade 11 or 12 as of September, 2021.

In addition, the Shakowennakara:tats (Indigenous Student Trustee) will be selected through CC:ROSE, a student-led community for Indigenous learners who connect with each other through unique cultural opportunities and by sharing their voice as Indigenous youth across HWDSB. You can learn more about CC:ROSE online.

A Student Trustee is a member of the Board of Trustees and as such is part of the deliberations and decision-making of all matters brought before the Board. Some critical responsibilities of the Student Trustee are to represent the interests of students during deliberations of the Board of Trustees and to communicate Board decisions to system students.

Student Trustees for the 2021-22 school year will be named at the May 17 Board meeting.
