HWDSB Students Represent Team BASEF at Major Science and Engineering Fairs

Last month, we told you about 11 Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board students who “virtually” walked away from the 2021 Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair (BASEF) with some serious honours.

A few of these students were tapped to represent Team BASEF at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) and the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Both events are officially wrapped up and HWDSB is excited to share the results!

Canada-Wide Science Fair

17 top winners at BASEF 2021 attended the virtual CWSF, including four HWDSB participants. There were 337 projects at the fair with 374 Student Finalists representing 73 of the 105 regional science fairs across all of Canada.

Overall, Team BASEF won 19 CWSF awards, including two gold medals, seven silver medals and one bronze medal, as well as nine special awards. Two of those excellence awards went to HWDSB students, along with six of the special awards. It is amazing to see HWDSB students win big at this national competition!

Here are the final results for our HWDSB Team BASEF members at the 2021 Canada-Wide Science Fair:

International Science and Engineering Fair

The Society for Science and Regeneron announced Grand Awards of the Regeneron ISEF 2021. Student winners are in grades 9 to 12 who earned the right to compete at the Regeneron ISEF 2021 by winning a top prize at a local, regional, state, or national science fair.

Team Canada had another remarkable year at Virtual Regeneron ISEF 2021. Nine projects placed in Category and two received Special Awards. Our lone entry did not walk away with an award, but we are proud to see HWDSB represented at this global event!

Here is HWDSB’s Team BASEF participant at the 2021 International Science and Engineering Fair:

Congratulations to our winners and participants at CWSF 2021 and ISEF 2021! You all did a wonderful job of representing HWDSB at national and international levels and we cannot wait to see what is next in your STEM adventures.
