HWDSB Student Arjun Ram Interviews Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Dr. Theresa Tam

In the first week of April, CBC Kids News and Radio-Canada’s Freelance Junior Reporter Arjun Ram asked kids to send in questions that he could bring to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam.

Arjun is a HWDSB student who is currently attending Norwood Park Elementary school. In his interview, he asked important questions around how COVID-19 can affect youths. The interview was aired on Saturday, April 4 on CBC Gem and on the CBC Kids News website.

The interview revealed that youths can show healthcare workers their support and appreciation for their hard work, not only by clapping and banging pots and pans outside, but by staying home. By staying home, even the youngest child can help to save lives and protect the lives of healthcare workers.

Youths expressed their anxious feelings around the concept that their parents could get COVID-19, which showed the importance of open and honest relationships with caring adults. Prime Minister Trudeau explained that support will always be available for youths and suggested that they discuss with their parents what would happen if anyone in their family got sick.

Arjun Ram’s interview is a reminder that youths are aware that this is an unprecedented time. It shows the importance of having the hard discussions to create understanding and learn about the ways each person can help.
