Hope and inspiration was bestowed on the 600 people attending the annual YMCA Peace Medal Breakfast on Wednesday (Nov. 30) morning at the Hamilton Convention.

The community breakfast celebrating volunteers awarded peace medals to some of those who shine in fostering a culture of peace and tolerance.

The event then heard from keynote speaker Maria Toorpakai Wazir, Pakistan’s top female squash player who now trains in Toronto. Wazir grew up in an area controlled by the Taliban and had to dress as a boy to be able to play sports.
