HWDSB and Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECE) Reach Local Agreement

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is pleased to jointly announce a local agreement with the Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECE) bargaining unit.

The Hamilton-Wentworth Designated Early Childhood Educators Local represents 437 permanent and occasional Early Childhood Educators working in HWDSB Kindergarten classrooms.

HWDSB’s Board of Trustees approved the local agreement at a Board meeting on February 22, 2021. HWDECEL members ratified the agreement on March 2, 2021.

“Reaching our eighth local agreement is more good news for the entire Board, thanks to the respectful virtual negotiation by both parties,” said Dawn Danko, Chair of the Board at HWDSB. “We sincerely thank our DECEs for continuing to provide high-value services for our youngest students.”

The tentative agreement covers the period from September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2022.

“We are pleased to have reached this agreement with Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and we feel we have reached a fair deal for our members,” said DECE Local President, Tamara DuFour.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with HWDSB as we implement the terms of our new collective agreement and as we move forward together in providing quality public education.”
