Apply Now via Apply to Education

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is committed to learning, equity, engagement and innovation.  HWDSB is guided by its mission to empower students to learn and grow to their full potential in a diverse world and proudly serves a community of approximately 50,000 students in the City of Hamilton and surrounding area.  HWDSB operates across 84 elementary schools, 13 secondary schools and 1 Adult Learning Centre in addition to providing support and service to approximately 7,096 staff members.

We are proud to announce we are creating a pool of qualified candidates for future Elementary Principal and Elementary Vice Principal positions.  Successful candidates to these administrative leadership pools will be placed on a ready list for a two year period and may be assigned at any time.

You are an exemplary educator who combines excellence in communication, a commitment to quality public education and a dedication to outstanding leadership.  Your competencies in the areas of decolonization, equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression are demonstrated through your consistent efforts to create culturally safe environments, to disrupt discrimination, and to dismantle racism and oppression of historically underserved stakeholder groups.  You must be a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and be currently enrolled in the Principal’s Qualification Program Part One (placement pending successful completion of PQP Part One).  Candidates who applied in the Winter 2021 Promotion Process and are considering re-submission are encouraged to delay their application at this time, thus creating the opportunity to demonstrate additional professional growth in a future promotion process.

All internal and external candidates are encouraged to attend promotion process preparation sessions on Wednesday, September 15 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 29 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Links to these virtual sessions are contained within the critical timelines on the following page.

Candidate applications must be submitted to Apply to Education by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021 and contain the following information:

  • cover letter and resume
  • minimum of three professional references with email contact information and permission to contact references
  • current OCT qualifications
  • TPA completed within the past three years (if a TPA has not been completed within the past three years, a letter of support from the principal mentor will be accepted)
