Eastgate Ford Donates New $60,000 Pickup Truck to Glendale Transportation Department
When Transportation students return to Glendale Secondary School, they are going to have an exciting resource at their disposal. Hamilton’s Eastgate Ford has donated a brand new Ford F-150 truck courtesy of Ford of Canada!
This $60,000 gift has been in the works for quite some time, and involved a fair bit of paperwork and emails. Peter De New, Glendale’s Transportation Technology teacher, and Robert Fricker, Service Manager at Eastgate Ford, were instrumental in the execution of this endeavour. The pickup truck was finally delivered to Glendale on Thursday, May 26 to the delight of all parties involved.
“Ford of Canada and Eastgate’s commitment to HWDSB students through programming is demonstrated by this wonderful donation,” said Jeff Adema, K-12 Program Consultant at Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. “We know the challenges to provide relevant resources and equipment are large, but it is through such ventures that we better serve our community and, more importantly, our HWDSB students.”
The new Ford F-150 pickup will allow students to learn how the Shift on the Fly four-wheel drive systems work and how the electronic engine controls around Ford’s Eco Boost and powertrain systems operate. The truck also uses electric steering and has a glass dashboard vehicle management system. Students will have the opportunity to use the problem-solving skills they have learned in class to work through electronic faults and system problems in modern vehicles like this one.
De New recognizes that community partners, like Eastgate Ford, are integral to giving students authentic learning opportunities so they are ready for the real work world.
This donation from Eastgate is helping Glendale build its student technicians’ diagnostic capabilities so they are ready with the necessary skills for apprenticeships. Glendale is also getting learning materials and training aids, along with educational training program modules, so students can get accreditation for future employment.
Thank you Ford of Canada and Eastgate Ford for making such a substantial investment in HWDSB students! We cannot wait to see how the truck is able to benefit young minds at Glendale for years to come.
