global connect

In the Global CONNECT course, students learn leadership, team building, cooperation, and interpersonal skills to envision what they want their future to look like and how to get there.

In 2019-2020 Global CONNECT, the class chose to create two very different and important events to support students throughout HWDSB by engaging and connecting them.

The first was Eyes on Youth Art Exhibition, which took place in December 2019. Students from every school across HWDSB were invited to share their voice through their artistic expressions as well as to attend the event to explore the wide variety of artistic expressions on display. There were more than 150 art installations, which included paintings, drawings, sculptures, mixed media, spoken voice, and interpretative dance. The event gave HWDSB students a powerful opportunity to share their voices and gain valuable knowledge on human rights and United Nations goals for sustainable development.

The second event was Start a SPARK Youth Leadership Conference run by the Global CONNECT class. About 120 HWDSB students in grades 7 and 8 attended. They learned leadership skills and applied their passion for sustainability to spark plan for a community project based on the United Nation’s sustainable development goals. Many initiatives were designed and then implemented in various schools, with continued support from the Global CONNECT class well beyond the completion of the conference.

Congratulations to all the students and staff members who were recognized during this week’s Profiling Excellence! We appreciate your commitment to providing opportunities for HWDSB students to share their voice, achievements, understanding and experiences.
