COVID-19 Reminders for Families ahead of Winter Break

Student Screening

As we prepare for winter break, we want to remind families of the importance of screening your child/ren daily before they attend school. Screening for COVID-19 symptoms is a crucial measure that helps reduce transmission and keep schools open.

Hamilton Public Health Services has recommended enhanced health and safety measures for local schools to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the Omicron variant of concern. Please remember this is not a new virus, and the well-established public health measures we practice, such as daily screening, will help keep our communities safe.

For more information, see our screening webpages:

Taking Home Personal Items

There is no direction from the Ministry of Education, Chief Medical Officer of Health in Ontario or Hamilton Public Health Services to close or move to remote learning after the break. As good practices, however, please ask your child/ren to bring home all personal items by Friday.

As a precaution, we are reviewing our Remote Readiness Plan, which includes device deployment options. Device deployment would begin after the break only if there is a decision to move to a full remote delivery model. School Messenger will be used to notify caregivers of confirmed case close contacts as well as any change in school operations.

City of Hamilton recommended enhanced health and safety measures for local schools

We thank our partners at Hamilton Public Health Services for their continued vigilance and for recommending enhanced health and safety measures for local schools. We know that students, families, and staff want strong measures in place to keep schools open and reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. We will work with HPHS to implement the new guidance in the lead up to the holiday, and as we prepare for learning to resume in January 2022. We will update our community as we implement enhanced public health measures.
