HWDSB Community Engagement Series: Getting Started With iPad

Have an iPad? Wondering how to use it to support learning at home?

Join us for our Community Engagement Series: Getting Started With iPad. In this series we will:

  • provide hands on experiences that show how to use the iPad for learning;
  • play with different apps and tools that can be used to optimize the distance learning experience; and,
  • share resources that families can use to support children at with learning at home.

Sessions are co-facilitated by HWDSB staff and Apple Education Learning Specialists to support families and provide an opportunity to explore ways that the iPad can be used to support learning at home.

Feb 9, 21 7:00 PM – Managing Digital Documents and Workflow

  • Wondering how to deal with all those digital documents? Join us for a hands on exploration of the ways in which iPad can be used to create, edit and organize digital documents and manage online communication. Through this session we will: demonstrate various ways to manage digital workflow on the iPad, explore built in tools for creating and annotating PDF’s explore tools that can be used to markup various file types.

Feb 23, 21 7:00 PM – Reaching All Learners: Using iPad to Access the Abilities of All Learners

  • Join us for as we explore the powerful assistive features that are built into iPad to empower all learners to participate. In this hands on session we will explore features such as Speak Screen, Safari Reader, and Speech Controller to enable reading fluency, comprehension, and composition for every learning style. We’ll also discuss ways that technology can be used to overcome barriers in digital communication and share additional resources available to families for empowering their children to participate in their education.

Mar 9, 21 7:00 PM – Making Thinking Visible

  • Join us as we dive into ways that iPads can be used to empower learners to communicate their thinking in multiple ways! In this hands on session we’ll explore the principles of multi-modal communication and explore ways students can use tools like screen recording, voice memos and visual note taking to capture and share their thinking process with teachers. We’ll also share valuable resources that families can use to continue their learning journey and provide opportunities for rich and meaningful assessment.ipad

NOTE: Although having an iPad is NOT required to join, participants are encouraged to have a device accessible to them for the session so they can get the most out of the hands on portion.

Generally speaking it is advised that devices:

  • be fully charged
  • run iOS 13 or later (recommended)
  • set up to allow access to the HWDSB or Apple App catalogue
