Increased case activity and impacts on school communities

The following message is being shared to families on December 23, 2021 on behalf of Hamilton Public Health Services.

Due to increased case and contact activity in Hamilton, Hamilton Public Health Services is currently experiencing a delay in their ability to respond to positive COVID-19 results. As a result, there is currently a delay in their school and school board partners’ ability to inform school communities of the positive result and whether high risk close contacts within the case’s cohort(s) need to quarantine.

As the Omicron Variant of Concern continues to spread in our community, it is critically important that we all:

  • Limit the number of contacts we have over the holidays;
  • Maintain physical distance;
  • Practice good hand hygiene;
  • Wear a properly fitted mask;
  • Stay home if feeling unwell.

Hamilton Public Health Services is working as quickly as possible to address the backlog in cases, and staff will continue to manage cases throughout the duration of the holiday season.
