Balaclava School Update Week of April 7th
This Wednesday, April 9th is the International Day of Pink, which is a world-wide anti-bullying and anti-homophobia event held annually during the second week of April. Although similar to Pink Shirt Day (held in February) in that it also seeks to end all bullying, the Day of Pink is more specifically aimed towards anti-LGBTQ+ bullying. We invite all students and staff to consider wearing a pink shirt on Wednesday as we talk about inclusion, respect and acceptance of diversity.
Barring further inclement weather and more April snowstorms, we will be re-opening our playground structures this week for students to enjoy during recess and DPA times. We’ll remind students about appropriate use and safety rules, but we are thrilled to welcome back this activity for students during their play.
Thank you to all of the families who have already donated boxes of cereal to our spring food drive for the Flamborough Food Bank. We are hoping to collect enough boxes to build a domino run here at the school for all of the students to witness. The more boxes we have, the bigger the domino run. We’ll be taking donations until April 25th. Students who donate will be entered in a draw to be the lucky winner who starts our domino run, and classes are competing for a breakfast-at-school prize for the class that brings in the most boxes. What a fun way to give back to your community!
