Secure Schools Information for 2023

Every year, school communities are required to engage in a number of Secure Schools drills to ensure all students and staff understand how to participate in the case of an emergency situation. These drills include:  6 fire drills (3 in the fall, 3 in the spring), 1 hold and secure drill, 1 shelter in place drill, 2 lockdown drills and 1 bomb threat drill.

For more information about the specific circumstances involving each of these emergency situations, please see this link on the HWDSB website:

Secure Schools

Several of these drills were already conducted in the fall of 2022. The remaining drills: 3 fire drills, 1 Shelter in Place drill, 2 Lockdown drills and 1 Bomb Threat drill, will be conducted between January and June, 2023.

Our first emergency drill scheduled for 2023 is a Shelter in Place drill, which will occur the week of January 23rd. Whole school information will be shared with students about the drill over the announcements and individual educators in classrooms can further work with students to prepare them for classroom-specific procedures.
