SOCCER-B: Waterdown defends title to repeat as champions

2017-18 Boys Soccer Champions: Waterdown WarriorsHAMILTON (May 28, 2018) – The Waterdown Warriors repeated as Hamilton public school boys soccer champions on Monday rebounding from a 3-1 deficit to edge Guido de Bres 4-3 in penalty kicks (5-4) at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School.

Waterdown converted on all five penalty kicks to steal the game away from Guido after they held a commanding 3-1 lead through the first seventy minutes of play. Ahmad Mansour scored in the 75th minute to tie the game and push the game into overtime. He also scored a goal in penalty kicks.

Other Waterdown scorers were Liam Seward (4th minute) and Caleb Adamu (71st minute)

Guido de Bres kicked off the scoring in the first minute of play with Jack Jans registering the opening marker. From there, Kyle Nordeman added goals at the 40th and 60th minute which at the time looked like it was all Guido de Bres needed to seal the win.

Waterdown along with Glendale and Guido de Bres will represent “Zone 1” at the Southern Ontario Secondary School Association (SOSSA) championship next Thursday. Waterdown will be the ‘AAA’ representative, while Glendale will represent the ‘AA’ school classification and Guido will be the ‘A’ representative. Check www.sossa.on.ca for full details.
