2018 HWDSB boys basketball all-star classic in the books

2017-18 Boys Basketball All-Star Classic

HAMILTON (March 27, 2018) – Team McMaster and Team Mohawk split the HWDSB boys basketball all-star classic capping the 2017-18 basketball season on Tuesday night at Glendale Secondary.

Team McMaster captured the opening junior game edging Team Mohawk 91-90 in a last minute thriller. Skyler Rajasingham of the Ancaster Royals won the game on a buzzer beater to earn bragging rights for Team McMaster.

Kyle Moore from Sir Allan MacNab posted 16 points in the win while Evan Morgan of Westdale had 13. For Team Mohawk, the leading scorer was Michael Barry also from Sir Allan MacNab posting 14 points in the loss.

Tavaughn Rose of Hamilton District Christian collected player of the game honours for Team McMaster while Noah Mulkewich of Westdale was named the games top player for Team Mohawk

In the senior battle, Team Mohawk got their revenge beating Team McMaster 81-79.

Rickey Morrison of Saltfleet led the game sinking 16 points in for Team Mohawk while Glendale’s Milos Mladjan added 15. Kyle Krist of Waterdown was the top scorer for Team McMaster in the loss contributing 14 points.

Mladjan was named the top player for Team Mohawk while Krist earned the nod on Team McMaster’s squad.

Team McMaster lead the way at halftime 37-33, but some clutch play in the third proved the difference maker for Team Mohawk who fought back to earn a 59-57 lead heading into the fourth quarter. That powered them to an 81-79 finish.

The games featured 48 of the cities top student-athlete basketball players from the Hamilton public school board. Each team was comprised of 12 players and saw the best 24 athletes play in junior and senior. Teams were coached by respective players or coaches from Mohawk College and McMaster University basketball programs.

Both post-secondary institutions provided varsity student-athletes to help coach the games with their head coaches on hand to present awards post game.
