It’s Almost Time…

Dear Families of Ancaster Meadow,

We look forward to welcoming our school community back next week!

The Parent Portal is now open, and you can view to confirm the name of your child’s teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Class placement is a collaborative process, involving the voices of families, students, and educators. This process takes place over several weeks and a considerable amount of thought and time goes into placement decisions, including consideration of current and potential friendships, student success, and student achievement. Please note, changes to class placements are not being considered at this time. Our dedicated and caring staff will work with you to support students in transitioning to their new classrooms. If you have any specific concerns about your child, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

The First Day of School (Grades 1-8)

The first day of school for grades 1-8 is Tuesday, September 6th. Students will be greeted by their new teachers on the playground. Teachers will have signs with their names on them, along with class lists. This is where they can gather to meet with their new classmates and prepare for entry.

For the safety of all students, we ask that parents/guardians stay off the main playground and field at drop off and pick up times. If you require any assistance, please look for staff members who will be wearing safety vests.

Kindergarten Students

Tuesday, September 6th

All students new to kindergarten and/or Ancaster Meadow will have an opportunity to have a short, scheduled visit with the kindergarten team. Families who are registering new kindergarten children this week will be contacted prior to the end of the day on Friday, September 2nd, with a scheduled time for the visit.

Wednesday, September 7th

All kindergarten students will begin their full day of kindergarten. Educators will meet students at the kindergarten pen connected to their classroom. Mrs. Kasolka and Mrs. Staples’ kindergarten class will be greeted at the side kindergarten pen.

**We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Kasolka will continue with her LTO placement for this year!

Transportation

If your child is taking the bus this year, they will be met by staff upon arrival and supported by staff at the end of the day until buses arrive. It is very important that your child knows how they will be getting home at the end of each day. Please take some time to review this with your child. During start-up, bus transportation may experience some delays; your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated. Families that are eligible for transportation, should have received an email with the following link: https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/blog/new-student-transportation-portal/

Please review this link as it contains important information for the 2022/2023 school year.

Parking Lot

To help promote an active lifestyle and reduce congestion in our parking lot, we strongly encourage students to walk or ride bikes and/or scooters to and from school. Our parking lot will be closed for a time before and after school to permit safe access for our school buses and to allow our students and staff safe entry/exit. If you have an exceptional circumstance that requires the use of the parking lot during these times, please contact the office to obtain an Ancaster Meadow Parking Pass which can be displayed on your dashboard.

The school is organized on a Balanced Day schedule, meaning we have two nutrition breaks. Students have 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes to play at each break. Please be sure to pack enough food for two breaks. Drop-off or delivery of food is strongly discouraged, in an effort to minimize interruptions to instruction.
