Thursday, May 23 - Presentation on Kickass Careers in the Trades 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm in the Dalewood School Auditorium, 1150 Main St W With funds from the Parent Reaching Out Grant this year, Dalewood Middle School is hosting an evening with Jamie McMillan, co-founder of Kickass Careers, whose mandate is to engage, educate, and inform parents and students about opportunities in the trades. She will be speaking about her experience in working in the trades and the unusual path she took to get to her dream job...if only she had known about the opportunities when she was in middle school! She is an amazing speaker and an advocate for careers in trades in general and also for women in trades as more and more women like her pursue apprenticeships. She will talk about the tremendous opportunities for continuous and well-paid employment, ability to "earn while you learn" (get paid for going to school), the challenging and fulfilling work that she has done and continues to do, and future opportunities in the trades. She has been known to make the adults in the room consider a career change! This is a family event (despite the title!) and students are also welcome and encouraged to attend.
