The Song Bird and Healing Waters

You are invited to attend Hess Street School's Metis Musical Presentation The Song-Bird and the Healing Waters on June 12, 2 - 3 pm in the school gymnasium. The play is about the healing source of life that is water and the earth, and it highlights our deep interdependence with all beings in the natural world. Using sounds from nature, the grade 7 class is presently developing an original music soundtrack with a professional sound engineer. The grade 5/6 class is learning songs from a Metis Elder to present during the play. Grades 6, 7, 8 classes explored the Dundas Conservation Area to connect with nature and record nature sounds and animal voices to contribute to the musical score. An Anishnaabe storyteller is mentoring the grade 8 class, the actors, in movement and drama. Dundas Valley Secondary visual arts students and instructor are creating masks for our animal characters. Lighting crew from Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary will assist in stage lighting. Our partnership/mentorship with The Metis Women's Circle and funding from The Hamilton Community Foundation.
