Late Morning Drop-Offs & Parking Concerns

Once again we feel it is important to remind families that the Instructional School Day begins promptly at 8:30 a.m.  Students are expected to be in their lines ready to go inside at 8:30 a.m.  After that time, they are considered late for school.  The first warning entry bell rings at 8:28 a.m. so students should be dropped off to school BEFORE this time.

We are still finding that upwards of 30 cars are just entering our “Kiss and Drop” lane everyday after the 8:30 a.m. bell has already gone.  This creates two problems:  students are then late for school and safety concerns arise as there are no longer teachers on duty as they have started their teaching duties inside the building.

The staff at Winona take great pride in greeting and welcoming our students each morning and keeping them safe in the kiss and drop and bus areas.  Teachers are only on outdoor supervision duty from 8:15 – 8:30 a.m. before starting their Instructional duties inside.

We do acknowledge that, across the school board this year, late buses are sometimes causing lateness issues that are beyond parent control.  In general, however, the main amount of lates are happening because of late drop-offs in the “Kiss and Drop” Lane in the morning.

Please also be reminded that the “Kiss and Drop” Lane is only for quick stops to let your child(ren) out of the vehicle and then move through.  Cars may not be parked or left in the Kiss and Drop Lane for any reason or at any time as it is extremely busy.  If you wish to park and walk your child to the playground or enter the school, please use the large parking lot on the south end of the school.

We ask for your support and cooperation in working hard to leave a few minutes earlier each day so that your child is dropped off in a timely manner.

Thank-you.
