StrongStart Early Literacy Program

We are fortunate to have support from our community to offer a unique program called Letters, Sounds and Words. This program co-ordinates well with our school curriculum and the HWDSB Strategic Directions.

Volunteers from our community are needed to work one-to-one with children in SK and Grade 1 to review and learn their foundational skills in reading through games and fun activities. All materials and Volunteer Training are provided; your only job is to work with a child each week – you’ll enjoy watching the great gains that are made in only ten weeks!

The volunteer commitment: 30 minutes (minimum) per week for 10 weeks as well as attendance at 2 Volunteer Training sessions to be held at Templemead School. The program will run from mid-March to early June.

Please check out the website www.strongstart.ca ; If you are interested you can follow the tabs on the site to sign up for the Volunteer Training Sessions being offered at Templemead in February.

Still have questions? Contact Carol Broer, our Reading Specialist at [email protected]

Programs such as StrongStart could not happen without the generous gift of time and talent from our volunteers. Thank you in advance for considering this meaningful volunteer opportunity, and for sharing it with others who may be interested.
