HWDSB Begins Construction of the New Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) has started construction of the new Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School, located southwest of the intersection of Rymal and Upper Sherman.

The new school will boast many design features that will create collaborative learning environments. Learning spaces at Nora Frances Henderson are designed so that students can work together and help each other learn. The Learning Commons (library) will be located in the centre of the school, with classrooms sharing breakout areas where students can collaborate.

In May 2012, HWDSB Trustees approved the closure of Barton, Hill Park and Mountain secondary schools and the construction of a new high school on the southeast mountain.

The new Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School will accommodate 1,250 students from Grade 9 to Grade 12 in an approximately 166,000 square foot three-storey secondary school. Other features include:

  • Black box theatre
  • Fitness room
  • Triple gym
  • Artificial turf main sports filed
  • Six-lane running track
  • 600 spectator bleachers
  • Two-storey Learning Commons
  • Central courtyard
  • Technology labs
